The Boma – Dinner & Drum Show, which to date more than one million people have enjoyed, has come a long way since its humble beginnings a quarter of a century ago.

The Boma was developed after the Lokuthula Lodges were built in 1992, to cater for guests staying at the lodges.  As the accommodation was deemed to be out of town, a restaurant was required by Resort Condominium International so that Lokuthula Lodges could obtain affiliation to the largest timeshare network in the world.

As the developers of Lokuthula could not afford to build a restaurant, they instead just built a kitchen and called it a ‘bush’ restaurant. It was a 60-seater eatery, and in the beginning the waiters were also the entertainers.

The restaurant was a failure due to the constant weather changes.  During a visit to a friend who was re-doing her roof with thatch, one of the developers offered her a job to come up to Victoria Falls and build The Boma restaurant, which she did.

Initially, the restaurant was called The Boma – Place of Eating, but it was re-branded in 2016 to The Boma – Dinner & Drum Show, to include the unique entertainment element that has made the experience a Victoria Falls highlight.

The re-branding included a review of the food offering, entertainment, uniforms and décor.  The changes have made The Boma more contemporary, without losing its traditional feel.

In 2019 The Boma underwent another major refurbishment which saw the main kitchen and cookhouse rebuilt, new equipment installed and structural changes made to the serving areas to better accommodate the larger volumes of guests.

In addition its décor was redone to capture the style of the traditional Zimbabwean cooking hut.

Die Boma – Dinner & Drum Show, die bis heute mehr als eine Million Menschen genossen haben, hat seit ihren bescheidenen Anfängen vor einem Vierteljahrhundert einen langen Weg zurückgelegt.

Die Boma wurde nach dem Bau der Lokuthula Lodges im Jahr 1992 entwickelt, um Gäste der Lodges bewirten zu können. Da die Unterkunft als außerhalb der Stadt gelegen galt, benötigte das ‚Resort Condominium International‘ ein Restaurant, damit die Lokuthula Lodges Mitglied des größten Timesharing-Netzwerks der Welt werden konnten.

Da es sich die Entwickler von Lokuthula nicht leisten konnten, ein Restaurant zu bauen, bauten sie stattdessen einfach eine Küche und nannten sie ein „Busch“ -Restaurant. Es war ein 60-Sitzer-Restaurant, und am Anfang waren die Kellner auch die Animateure.

Das Restaurant war aufgrund der ständigen Wetteränderungen zum Scheitern verurteilt. Bei einem Besuch bei einer Freundin, die ihr Dach mit Stroh bedeckte, bot einer der Entwickler ihr an, zu den Victoriafällen zu kommen und das Restaurant ‚The Boma‘ zu bauen, was sie dann auch tat.

Ursprünglich hieß das Restaurant ‚The Boma‘ ( Ort des Essens), wurde jedoch 2016 in ‚The Boma – Dinner & Drum Show‘ umbenannt, um das einzigartige Unterhaltungsangebot hervorzuheben, welches das Erlebnis zu einem Highlight in der Umgebung der Victoriafälle gemacht hat.

Das Rebranding beinhaltete eine Überarbeitung des Speisenangebotes, des Entertainments, der Uniformen und des Dekors. Die Änderungen haben The Boma zeitgemäßer gemacht, ohne dass die traditionelle Stimmung verloren gegangen ist.

Im Jahr 2019 wurde das Boma erneut umfassend renoviert, wobei die Hauptküche und das Kochhaus umgebaut, neue Geräte installiert und strukturelle Änderungen an den Servierbereichen vorgenommen wurden, um den größeren Mengen an Gästen besser gerecht zu werden.

Darüber hinaus wurde das Dekor überarbeitet, um den Stil der traditionellen simbabwischen Kochhütte einzufangen.
