Acclaimed for service excellence, renewable energy, social responsibility efforts and conservation programmes, Aquila is more than just an unforgettable wildlife experience; it is an experience in luxurious African hospitality, traditional culinary delights, service excellence and the restoration of pride to the indigenous people and the land.
Aquila Private Game Reserve & Spa is situated in a valley between the Langeberg and the Outeniqua Mountains in the Karoo. The 10,000 hectare conservancy has evolved from its early days of being residence to various antelope species only, to becoming the home of the Big 5 – elephant, lion, buffalo, rhino and leopard – as well as a significant amount of other wild game, which roam freely on the reserve.
Aquila’s purpose is to protect and preserve Africa’s increasingly threatened wildlife and is fully committed to social upliftment, job creation, skills development and various sustainable empowerment programmes. Creating the ideal, sustainable balance between nature conservation and the empowerment of the local community of Touwsriver is at the core of how Aquila operates.
Today, Aquila’s guests can experience a day or overnight safari experience. Aquila offers its guests a unique opportunity to experience the reserve’s natural flora and fauna, eco synergy park, spa facilities, curio shop and kids adventure centre.
Day trip and overnight safari guests have an option to tailor-make their safari experience by adding a quad bike safari or horseback safari option to their traditional 4×4 Safari experience.
Junior Kids Ranger Program
Aquila offers a Junior Ranger program which departs daily after breakfast with a minimum of 4 pax and is open to children of all ages. Children under the age of 6 will be catered for in the Aquila Kids Club, and children over 6 (and adults) will be taken on a game drive and lessons in animal identification will be given using spoor and animal droppings. The ancient people that roamed the plains at Aquila are known as the Khoi San. They left behind them a rich and diverse collection of rock art. Our students are taught how to create own work of art. They will also learn more about the daily lives of these ancient people, covering, hygiene, hunting, cooking. For advanced students, the geology of the region is fascinating. They will be taken back in time to when this landscape was crafted by nature and learn how the plant life adapted to the new climate changes.
Join us in our African spa using natural products that harness the medicinal powers of indigenous plants, flowers and herbs and are free from petrochemicals, synthetic ingredients, colourants and preservatives.
